Exam Time

It’s almost the end of the first trimester and that means it’s time for exams!  If you would like to help your student on some test taking techniques and strategies, try this website.  Good luck!

The halfway mark of the first trimester is quickly approaching.  Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on October 13th from 4:oo – 8:00 p.m. Please take this opportunity to check on your student’s progress in their classes.  We hope to see you there!  If you have any questions, please contact the HS office.

Welcome Back!

Whew! Summer vacation flew by for me, how about for you?

I’m happy to say we have officially completed registration week.  Thank you all for taking time to come and complete this process and for getting the necessary paperwork to us.  It makes our job a little easier when we know who to contact in case of an emergency or where we should be sending items to.

The first day of school is Sept. 6th.  The school day will be 8:20 – 3:20 this year.  Please make sure students are to school early so that they can be to class on time.  Also, if you are able, try to schedule appointments outside of the school day.  This will allow your student to stay in class and hear the content being taught.  Attendance really is key to being successful at the secondary level.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to contact me by phone,  989.967.2100, or via e-mail, mnewman@chsd.us.  I look forward to working with you and your student this school year.  Go WARRIORS!!

GREAT JOB!

Great job CH band and orchestra.  The Melodic Madness event held on Saturday was a blast.  You had a great turnout and fantastic activities for the kids (nice treats, too)!  Thank you for all of your hardwork.

Dear Parents or Guardians, Teachers and Principals;

A Chippewa Hills High School student was recently diagnosed with meningitis.  The preliminary report to District #10 Health Department indicates that the type of meningitis is NOT the kind that requires prophylactic antibiotics for the close contacts of the patient with meningitis.  The final report will be available in 24 hours.  As of today, we are not recommending prophylaxis, pending the final report.  The most serious type of bacterial meningitis is preventable with a vaccination for teens and high risk individuals.  Talk to your medical provider for information.  Ways to prevent infections are frequent hand washing, staying healthy with good health habits and not sharing food, drink and personal items with others.

The symptoms of meningitis in adults and teens are:

Common in older children and adults

    • High fever
    • Severe headache
    • Stiff neck
    • Sensitivity to bright light
    • Sleepiness or trouble waking up
    • Nausea, vomiting
    • Lack of appetite

Home stretch

We’re in the home stretch.  It is hard to believe that today is the very last day of April.  In about a month, we will be saying “Goodbye and best wishes” to another class leaving the halls of Chippewa Hills High School.  Leading up to that day, we have many dates reserved for points of pride and recognition.  Be sure to check the upcoming events section on this page or the district calendar so that you do not miss out on those events.  As always, you can e-mail me if you have specific questions regarding any of those dates.

Woohoo

Good luck to our Varsity Wrestlers headed to individual State this week!  We are SOOOO proud of you.  Go Warriors!

Trying to communicate

In an effort to communicate more effectively, we will be posting student announcements daily on the HS website.  Simply follow this link, click on HS at the top, and then click on the  student announcements logo in the right hand column.  Let us know what you think!

Believe it or not~

Believe it or not, it is almost progress report time for trimester 2.  On January 20th, we will be hosting Parent Teacher Conferences.  We hope to see you there!

Schedule

Whew, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything to read about!  I try to use this site mostly for calendar updates in the widget area only because I’m not certain how many people are actually accessing it.  But, for those of you who do come to visit, here’s a little snapshot of what’s to come at CHHS over the next few months.

11.29 – 2nd trimester begins!  Students were all given that schedules this past Friday during PRIDE.  Already there are a few venturing to the counseling office for schedule changes.  Please note, only students who have taken the course previously or have a core class that they need to fit into their schedule will be granted changes at this point.

12.22 – Students and staff will begin winter break.  We will return after the holidays on Jan. 5th.

In March, testing will begin.  March 1st, 2nd and 3rd all of our Juniors will be taking the State mandated ACT/MME assessment.  Additionally, the Freshmen will take the ACT Explore and the Sophomores the ACT Plan test on March 1st.  Seniors who do not need to retake any portion of the MME, will get the day off to explore colleges/universities, complete recruiting requests, or peruse the workforce for applications.

Spring break will begin April 1st and end on the 8th.

Graduation has been set for June 5th at 3:00 in the HS Gymnasium.  There are no tickets necessary to attend. Seniors last day is June 1st.  They will have graduation practice on June 3rd in the morning with a send off assembly.  Senior parents are also beginning to meet to plan the class of 2011 Project Graduation event.  The next meeting is Dec. 2nd at 6:30.

School for all other students will end June 8th.

There are a few other events that I did not include only because I’d like to ensure that you are given the right date.  Stay tuned.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
